LTO Technology
High-performance tape storage technology with the versatility, reliability and performance network tape buyers have been waiting for.
The tape storage marketplace has become complex. The LTO technology provider companies, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Quantum, sought to ease tape buyers' fears by giving them a reliable, open-format solution that includes an impressive six generation road map.
About LTO Technology
Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology was developed jointly by HP, IBM and Quantum to provide a clear and viable choice in an increasingly complex array of tape storage options.
LTO Ultrium technology is an "open format" technology, which means that users will have multiple sources of product and media. The "open" nature of LTO technology also provides a means of enabling compatibility between different vendors' offerings.
The Ultrium format is the "high capacity" implementation of LTO technology. Go to Ultrium technology primer
